Yale Conexis L1 Smart Door Lock Review: Keyless Entry for £85 (RRP £190)

The Yale Conexis L1 is one of the most popular UK smart door locks for a reason. It’s made by Yale (the name that’s been securing British front doors for 180 years), it replaces a standard nightlatch in 10–15 minutes, and it gives you app control plus keytags without forcing you onto a subscription.

We have one used unit at £85, down from £190 RRP. That’s a 55% saving on a name-brand smart lock that normally costs you £165–£180 even on a good Amazon day.

Quick Verdict

If you want mainstream-brand smart security and don’t mind a used unit, this is excellent value. The Conexis L1 is genuinely simple to use once installed and Yale’s app is one of the best in the category. Important: confirm fit with your current nightlatch case before buying. This is the lock body, not a deadbolt replacement.

What does it actually do?

The Conexis L1 replaces your existing front door nightlatch — that’s the latch lock at the top of the door, not the multi-point Euro cylinder lock at the side. Instead of using a key to unlock, you have four options:

  • Yale Home app on your phone – tap to unlock from inside Bluetooth range
  • Keytag or keycard – tap against the lock, like an Oyster card
  • Phone disc – a small sticker that lets you tap-unlock with your phone without opening the app
  • Back up battery connect – 9v battery connection on the bottom of the lock if the main batteries die.

Add the optional Wi-Fi bridge module (sold separately) and you unlock the bigger features: open the door remotely, share time-limited virtual keys with cleaners or Airbnb guests, see the full audit log of who came and went and when. The Wi-Fi bridge is a real upgrade if you want full smart-home functionality, but the lock works perfectly well without it.

Who is it for?

Genuine fit if:

  • You keep losing or lending keys (cleaners, dog walkers, Airbnb guests, builders)
  • You want app control without ripping out your whole door setup
  • You already have a standard UK nightlatch
  • You hate the subscription model and don’t want to pay monthly for a lock
  • You’re starting to build a smart home but don’t want to commit to a closed ecosystem

Probably not for you if:

  • Your door has only a multi-point Euro cylinder lock and no separate nightlatch (Conexis L1 won’t fit)
  • You want hardwired or PoE smart locking, this is battery-only
  • You need full Z-Wave or Zigbee integration (Bluetooth-only without the bridge)

The pros and cons

✓ Pros

  • Genuine Yale build quality and security rating
  • Multiple access methods, you’re never locked out if your phone dies
  • Keytags work even with the lock’s batteries low
  • Easy first-time setup (10–15 minutes)
  • Yale Home app is well-rated, no subscription
  • Auto-lock means you never leave the door unlatched

✗ Cons

  • Replaces the nightlatch, not your main multi-point lock, check that’s what you need
  • Used condition, fit and finish may show wear
  • Batteries need annual replacement
  • Wi-Fi requires the separate bridge module (sold separately)
  • Only one available, no restock

How it compares on price

  • Yale Conexis L1 RRP: £190
  • Typical Amazon price (new): £165–£180
  • Competitor smart locks at this tier (Nuki Smart Lock, Aqara U200): £220-£280
  • Budget no-brand Bluetooth locks: £40-£80, but poor security ratings and patchy app support
  • Our price: £85, used, one unit

Your saving: £105.00 (55% off RRP)
Our price: £85.00 £190.00

Final verdict

For a name-brand smart lock at less than half RRP, this is one of the strongest savings in our current stock. The “used” condition is the trade-off, the mechanism itself is robust and Yale build quality is exactly what you’d expect, but check the photos carefully if cosmetic wear matters to you.

If you’ve been waiting to try smart locks without spending £200, this is the entry point.

One available. When it’s gone, it’s gone.
